Doppelgänger at Bergen Kunsthall

I am working on a new sound installation, Doppelgänger, that is going to be exhibited at Bergen Kunsthall. In Doppelgänger, the sound from the café of the gallery is transported into a sound installation consisting of steel monoliths. The sound from the café is presented in reworked, analysed form – as an abstracted, aural shadow version of the ‘real world’. The exhibition is produced by Lydgalleriet in collaboration with Bergen Kunsthall.


 
Sound object at the National Museum - Architecture

The sound object Workspace will be displayed at the National Museum - Architecture, in the period 8 April to 10 May 2013, in connection with the art Festival Oslo Open. Architectural Model in scale 1:10, analogue audio electronics.


 
Oslo Open

Saturday and Sunday, April 20 to 21, 2013 at 1200 to 1800 I will participate in the art festival Oslo Open. Oslo Open is an art festival with open studios which has been held six times since its inception in 2001. Come by and have a look at the work on my latest installation Doppelgänger. 12 pitches with SPUNK

On saturday 16 February 2013 at Ny Musikk in Oslo, I will play in the backing band of the improv band SPUNK. The concert is in conjunction with the completion of the project Das Wohltemperierte SPUNK, where the band has played one concert each year since 2001, each concert dedicated to one of the 12 pitches of the octave.


 
10th anniversary of the Norwegian Noise Orchestra

Wednesday 12 December 2012, from 12 noon and for the next twelve hours, it is the 10th anniversary of the Norwegian Noise Orchestra at Betong in Oslo, and I'm one of the performers. The band is a noise Big Band, but that is also the only fixed thing about it. The concerts are not planned, who is playing and how long, is completely open.


 
Nordheim article in Lydskrift

My article Memorables - Arne Nordheim's electronic music, examines the artistic and compositional techniques in Nordheim's electronic works, focusing on the Warsaw period. The article can be found in the new journal Lydskrift. There will be a release party for Lydskrift at the Torpedo bookstore in Oslo, Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at 1900-2100.


 
Composition at the University of Huddersfield

On September 25 2012, I will travel to northern England, the University of Huddersfield, and the CeReNeM (Centre for Research in New Music) to work on composing a new piece of electronic music. The work will take place in the unique experimental room for three-dimensional sound at the University of Huddersfield, The Spiral.


 
Chess at Ultima

Friday September 7 2012, I am involved in the performance of a new piece for two chess players and eight musicians during the Ultima Festival. The developments in the chess game controls the course of the music. The piece is based on the work Reunion by John Cage, which was first performed in 1968 by John Cage, David Tudor, Marcel Duchamp, Teeny Duchamp, Gordon Mumma, David Behrman, and Lowell Cross.


 
Vevnad at documenta XIII

I participate in the performance of Arne Nordheim's work Vevnad at documenta XIII in Kassel, Germany. The piece will be performed two times a day, every day for a week, June 5 - 10  2012. This is the first time this piece is performed outside of Norway.
The performers are: Sverre Riise (trombone), Emery Cardas (cello) and Asbjørn Blokkum Flø (Disklavier).


 
Concert in Kaliningrad

7. May 2012 I will play a concert with my own electronic music in Kaliningrad, Russia, at the Club Alternativa. The concert is organized by the NCCA (National Centre for the Contemporary Arts).


 
Workshop in Kaliningrad

I will travel to the NCCA (National Centre for the Contemporary Arts) in Kaliningrad, Russia, 5 - 7 May 2012 to do a workshop on the production of electronic music and sound art. The workshop revolves around how the production of audio, video, interaction and programming can be combined with artistic practice.


 
Resonatoor

I have just started the work on the piece Resonatoor for extended guitar ensemble, that is written in collaboration with guitarist Anders Førisdal. In Resonatoor, the techniques and concepts of electronic music is transferred to the writing of instrumental music.


 
Ragnarok in Russia

The sound installation Ragnarok will be exhibited again at the NCCA (National Centre for Contemporary Arts), in Kaliningrad, Russia. The exhibition is part of the Russian-Nordic focus on experimental music and sound art at NCCA Kaliningrad. The exhibition opens 9 December 2011.


 
Curator at the Ultima Festival

I am currently working as a curator on a series of concerts of electronic music in connection with the Ultima Festival 2011. The concerts range from field recordings via live electronics to computer-generated noise and takes place at Riksscenen and Taxi Take Away 9, 11 and 17 September.


 
Ragnarok at the Ultima festival

I am working on a new sound installation, Ragnarok, that is going to be premiered at KHiO (Oslo National Academy of the Arts) on September 17 2011 during the Ultima festival in Oslo. Ragnarok will compress musical history into an elementary particle of sound and then stretch this out into space again.


 
New record and release party

The new record Klank is just finished and we're having a release party at Mir in Oslo on Saturday August 27 2011 at 2030-0030. Klank consists of two short works in which various sonic threads are woven together into a ribbon of electronic sound. This micro release is available on 7" vinyl as well as streaming and digital download.


 
Vevnad at OCA and Ultima

I will do the electronics for a concert with the work Vevnad by Arne Nordheim 15 June, 2011 at 19:00 at OCA (Office for Contemporary Art Norway), Oslo. The piece will also be performed during the Ultimafestival 2011.
The performers are: Sverre Riise (trombone), Hans Josef Groh (cello) and Asbjørn Blokkum Flø (Disklavier).


 
Istanbul in Blackburn

The UK installation team 4dcreative have picked up the Istanbul work, and will be using it in an installation at a school for disabled children in Blackburn in 2011.


 
Percussion recordings in Malmö

I am going to Malmö in August 2011 for a recording of a piece for two percussionists. The recording will be posted on this page when the editing, mixing and mastering is finished.

The planning has started for the recording of piano music, and Henie Onstad Art Centre is booked for the recording with pianist Ellen Ugelvik in January 2011.

On tuesday December 7th 2010 I am doing the lecture Nordheim electric – techniques and artistic concepts in Nordheims electronic music at Litteraturhuset in Oslo together with Mats Claesson, Arne Nordheims engineer.


 
Concert at Grønland Chamber Music Festival

I'm currently working on a commission for a concert at Grønland Chamber Music Festival on the 4th of December 2010. The concert is held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pierre Schaeffer. The piece will be something in between a sound installation and electronic music. Watch out for anti-acousmatic Schaefferian sound structures.


 
Nordheim Concert in Huddersfield

I am going to the North of England and the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival where I’ll be doing the  electronics at a concert of electronic music by Norwegian composer Arne Nordheim on November  25th 2010 along with Nordheim's regular engineer for many years, Mats Claesson. The participants are: Asbjørn Blokkum Flø and Mats Claesson – electronics, Eldbjørg Hemsing - violin and Einar Steen-Nøkleberg - piano.


 
The writing of Analogique II is underway

I have just started writing a new piece, Analogique II for four electronic keyboard instruments. The development of specially designed electronics is underway and contains something as exotic as voltage control of analogue electronics with digital audio resolution. I am going to BEK in Bergen in early November 2010 to work on this piece with Trond Lossius.


 
Recording of Katastrofebilder finished

The recording of the work Katastrofebilder is finished. Katastrofebilder is a 45-minute piece for saxophone, violin, viola, cello, double bass and two percussionists. Editing and mixing of the piece will be finished in 2013.
